The plastic circulating in our ocean is killing our marine life, destroying the marine ecosystem and making its way into marine organisms. But we don't see it and the ocean is huge...... Think it doesn't bother you?

Think again... When this plastic waste (especially micro-plastics) finally breaks down to a size that phytoplankton can consume (our tinniest organisms on the bottom of the food chain), that plastic and the toxic chemicals used to manufacturer it leeches into these organisms.

-larger fish consume the smaller fish

- we catch and consume those fish

I had started researching this topic as a Bachelor of Environment University student undergraduate.

The more research I completed the more I find these world wide affecting environmental issues and they just aren't that well known. The scientific research and results is there in abundance but its not making everyday news. I ask friends and family about these issues and they hear pieces of these stories from time to time and are disheartened by the stories but without any follow up its again forgotten.

Sick of all the summits and extravagant meetings between world leaders about environmental issues and little being done? We want to bring it back to basics.

(Using the plastic pollution topic as an example but can be applied to any environmental issue we face)

Every week, every country in the world should report via television, radio and Internet what they are doing to better the worlds environment. Keeping the updates relevant and reporting on research or solutions in progress.

Making it regular news will have more people talking about the issue and may just inspire someone to come up with a better efficient solution. 

Show the general population real results in terms everyone can understand. The science shows what harm has already been done and what can potentially be caused if plastic waste isn't rectified but a lot of this information is hiding in scientific journals and reports far from the everyday public. 

I would much rather watch the news and show progress made on issues like cleaning up the ocean and environment then daily stories of death and destruction.

I would bet on the fact more people would be interested in this kind of news opposed to the economic day to day reports that everyone just loves...cant wait for the next one......

Its a ridiculously huge problem but simple actions can lead to real solutions.
