Civ 6 crashing now listing "Unhandled Exception Code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error writing address 0x65400"
I haven't play Civ 6 in around a week and now it gets to far as the dialogue on a new game (after selecting settings on the start menu) and it now crashes with the following error. The initial launcher page looks different now this week so I'm not sure if that has changed anything.
I've checked and updated my graphics drivers (no update needed).
The only updates have been to standard windows periodic updates.
Any help gratefully received as I can;t play Civ 6 at all now.

I'm also experiencing this problem, especially after the recent update. Though it happens during other civ turns or the diplomacy screen. Try clearing your download cache and see if that helps at all. Comes the worst, reinstall your game as chances are something downloaded wrong during an update, I still experience crashes, but not as much as I did before I decided to reinstall, hopefully, its a bug and a patch will fix it eventually.

Thanks - how do I clear the download cache? I actually uninstalled and then re-installed this afternoon but still get the same error. I wondered if it was my antivirus doing something but not sure and can't see why its changed all of a sudden this week!
Frustrating as I can't play the game at all now!

I also had this problem and it was not resolved after reinstalling the game. It's frustrating not to play the new DLC

I have the same problem, downloaded it for free on epic games and same error appears. I've verified files, updated drivers, graphics card made sure I have right Direct X and it doesn't work.

I just got it for free on Epic as well and it crashed with that error code 3 times yesterday. I saw a forum from a few years ago about this being a problem when it came out so I guess there is no fix? Or at least not a permanent one. It'd be nice if there was, this game is fun when it works...

Sounds like a memory or HDD error.

Post your PC specs, especially your GPU

so in the sticky thread about the recent crashing I posted that updating windows didn't help but may have been a factor that allowed dx11 to work without errors as I had not tried dx11 prior to updating windows

im having the same issue and DX11 runs fine.

Uninstall Microsoft redistributables and install again , that works for me

@ross98247 - thank you for posting this issue, I am experiencing the exact same thing. Mine generally occurs during my during and judging by what I've read so far it sounds like it's fairly random when it hits. I get the same error code as @hawaiian_luvr.

I've followed everyone's recommendations with regard to un/reinstallation, verifying game files, updating windows and video card (mine is a 1080ti), and even removed my anti-virus for a short bit to see if that had a conflict.

This is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of these massive monthly patches. Not only does it break MOD's I like to use, but I'm guessing we can expect minor things like this for the long run.

This worked for me on my version of EPIC Games

1. Uninstall the game
2. Delete the files in the documents folder> my games> Sid Meier's Civilization VI
3. Install the game again.

This worked for me on the Steam version of the game. No clue why this fixed it, but thanks.

This did NOT work for me on the STEAM version, but that doesn't mean it wont work for others.
